The kids are loving the pool this summer! I am so glad because in the past Noah has not always seen the pool as his favorite place. This year he wants to jump from the side (we catch him), he kicks and attempts to swim when we hold him and he is walking off the steps (in the pool) all on his own. This is huge progress for him. He laughs and laughs when we fake falling in-- he just loves it. Reese is warming up to the idea of the pool. At first she loved it and would want to be in her baby float or swim around with us, but now she prefers to sit on the edge and kick the water. She loves wearing her suit and playing with the pool toys. She totally struts around the pool in her pink suit! Both kids could stay out there all day. I am sure most of you are thinking... of course, all kids love the pool. Not the case with Noah. With his sensory sensitivities it has always been a big fear of his and an enormous struggle for us. We are just thrilled that he loves it. He stands at the sliding glass doors and strips down to nothing and says "pool!" --and now he has Reese doing the same thing. So funny!
I am pretty crazy about the sunscreen (shut it, Heidi)-- yes, I lather them over and over even when it's cloudy. Let's face it-- Reese's skin is as white as milk. And the sun is so harsh here! When Reese had her latest dermatology appointments (with two different doctors) I asked them about the best sunscreen for kids. Both said the same thing-- Blue Lizard Sensitive or Baby Lizard. I guess the main ingredient is Zinc Oxcide and apparently that is the best/safest protection. I asked both about the all-natural sunscreens and both said the same thing-- they don't work as well. So I got some and I gotta say-- love it. It has no fragrance, blends well and works great. It does not claim to be 'waterproof' but it seems to work well in the water. And who the heck knows what chemicals make it waterproof anyway.
We are looking forward to spending more time in the pool. Before you know it, it's going to be back down to the 80's and too cold to swim!
