principal facts.

Met with the Principal yesterday. You can tell a lot about a school by the person running it. This is what I went in knowing/hearing about him. One of the other moms I see every day told me how the Varying Exceptionalities parking spots came to be-- she walked into his office one day and said her daughter has a tough time walking (she has CP) and there should be some designated spots for these kids. When she picked her daughter up that afternoon there were four spots right out front painted. She said he was on the phone with someone that morning-- before she even left his office. That's impressive. He works at Paul B. Stevens in the summer-- this is a school that houses only the very profound children. He does this on his time off. When he came to the school the VE children were segregated from the typical kids. VE was in it's own unit. Not anymore-- it was he that put them all together.

I would love to say it was all rainbows and sunshine, but the reality is always budget. His hands are somewhat tied unless something is in Noah's IEP. He did say he would look into getting mouses for the computers that the kids could actually use. He also said he would look into utilizing an aid that has some time to help Noah when he is mainstreamed. It wasn't negative stuff.. but also not fantastic.

I am going to call an IEP meeting in November to be sure Noah gets all the minutes he needs for mainstreaming. Right now they are only required to do eight minutes per day. That is a waste of time for everyone. I know he can be successful if given the chance. He is such a bright boy.

I plan to follow-up next week if I don't hear anything from the principal sooner. My fingers are crossed.
