snaps for Reese!

While having dinner with my friends up in Maine, my friend Fern (Jennifer) told me a story about her little one, Alex. She said she had gone away on a girl's weekend and Dave (her husband) went cold turkey on the pacifier with Alex. Whoa. But she said it worked and when she got home it was done. What a dream, right?

The whole thing got me thinking. I let Noah have his binky a long time. I won't apologize for it, even though generally speaking I don't think that's a smart idea. But for us, we felt like he had endured so much. And if this gave him comfort then for goodness sake he could have it forever! Well, obviously that didn't happen and he gave it up all together at age 3. Reese just turned two. But I started thinking and I think Dave was on to something. Cold Turkey. Just do it and live through the couple rough nights.

Preparation began yesterday. Don't get me wrong. I was scared. She can be a very emotional little munchkin. I told her I had a great idea. We could take two sheets of stickers (best bribe), decorate an envelope and send all the binkys to the babies that really need them. She completely got into it. She used markers and stickers and decorated with pride. She and I went to the mailbox and said goodbye. She was fine with it. I was shocked. But this feeling was temporary. When she went to bed that night it started. "mommy, binky." and 30 minutes passed, and 60 minutes passed and 90 minutes passed. I heard her call me and whine, but no screams or crazy crying. She did well. Joe was at work all night and I am pretty amazed that I stuck to it.

And then today she took a nap just fine without it. Slept 3 hours as a matter of fact. Tonight, for the first time, there was no mention of it.

And that's it. They're gone. And we all lived to talk about it.

DS-- we owe you dinner the next time we're up!

We JUST got Maddie to stop sucking her thumb! We ended up using this AWFUL - I mean absolutely disgusting stuff called Mavala Stop. It worked like a charm. We only had to put it on twice.

Kristy--you gotta do what you gotta do. If I had thumb suckers I would do it too.

April-- let's switch. you be my sponsor for the potty. I'll be yours for the binky.
