I always tell them after that I love watching my fish swim. And Reese corrects me each time, "I'm not a fish, Mommy! I'm a mermaid!" Of course.

the fish and the mermaid.
We've started swim lessons. A couple months ago Noah fell in the pool and sank to the bottom like bricks were attached. It was one of the most frightening moments I've ever experienced. I was standing two feet from him so we got him out immediately. But it was surprising how fast he fell, how fast he sank. And he coughed up so much water. Poor guy. I knew that day that lessons were not about whether or not he loved the water. It was about surviving! Both kids get private lessons now. Reese sees a typical instructor/life guard. Noah sees a recreational therapist/life guard. Reese loves it. She needs less and less help every week, she is going under the water for longer periods, has learned to hold her breath and just really enjoys each lesson. Noah has a tougher time. He has some fear and some sensory sensitivities when it comes to the pool. But he handles it really well. And his instructor is fantastic with him. She's calm, patient and consistent. And I see improvements every week. He's not holding on so tightly anymore and is kicking now. I am impressed! Truly, this is one of the best things we've done for the kids.
