to pre-k or not to pre-k.

some moms and dads choose daycare or preschool because they are hardworking people looking to have their children cared for, while gaining enrichment. other parents are offered the opportunity (or simply choose) to stay home with their kids. this is no walk in the park. i agree with the cliche that "it is the hardest job you will ever have." thankfully, it's endlessly rewarding!

at about age three pre-k becomes an option for the kids even if one parent is home with him or her. my thoughts: it has it's pros and cons. i am looking at schools and trying to figure it all out. Is three too early?

definitely need some help with this one. please respond here with comments and/or vote to the right. registration is in a couple of months and i am t-o-r-n.

help!

Nic, Maddie went to PreK at age 4 and it was a wonderful prep for kindergarten. I didn't see the need to start her earlier since we've always got a slew of kids around, and her social skills were practiced there. I can certainly see a use for it at age 3 if kiddos don't have other venues to be consistantly social. I know you'll decide what's right for Reese.

I agree with you .. this is a hard one. But I am leaning towards yes.. pre-K. I see for Isabela it will be good for socialization.. plus its not an all day thing.. sometime before I have to make the decision. But I´m thinking yes..

It's all about socialization. Especially for your shy little one. They need to learn to do it even when mommy is not around (i.e. playgroups or mommy and me classes. But mom time is crucial too. Try 2 half days a week at this point and see how it goes.

hey nic...is it everyday, 1/2 a day? i think at 3 i will be looking for a preschool 3 days a week for little wes. still haven't decided on 1/2 day or stay for a nap kinda day. at 2, i'll put him in 2 days a week for socialization, and to give me some time with the new baby...like to sleep!! i never judge what my friends and family choose to do, because every situation is different and even children are different!

looking at pre-k 1/2 day until at least 4 (vpk)-- then to decide 2 or 3 days per week (each day is three hours). I am going to freakkkkkk out when dropping her off, whether it's at 3, 4 or 5! And she has a wee bit of stranger anxiety
