she went there.

"And in April, my husband Todd and I welcomed our littlest one into the world, a perfectly beautiful baby boy named Trig.
From the inside, no family ever seems typical.
That's how it is with us.
Our family has the same ups and downs as any other ... the same challenges and the same joys.
Sometimes even the greatest joys bring challenge.
And children with special needs inspire a special love.
To the families of special-needs children all across this country, I have a message: For years, you sought to make America a more welcoming place for your sons and daughters.
I pledge to you that if we are elected, you will have a friend and advocate in the White House. "

I'm about as liberal as they come. I do not agree with this women's policies (i'm sure i will be digging into this on this blog soon enough).

But she got me. Below the belt? Sort of. She hit me in the GUT and the tears welled a little. Because THIS is an issue no politicians ever address. And she did it with dignity and honesty.

Somewhere, my friend Jennifer is smiling. Me, liking a conservative? Say it isn't so!!

But at the end of the day...

In 2006, the Anchorage Daily News reported that Palin opposes stem cell research. McCain supports federal funding for stem cell research, but voted to ban researchers from using cells or fetal tissue from an embryo created for research purposes.

I cannot support someone who doesn't support this research. I am SHOCKED that she has a boy with special needs and doesn't support stem cell research. McCain is more flexible on this issue, but let's face it-- he will be out in four years and then we are looking at Palin vs. Clinton. I guess we can just wait and see with this one...

Thoughts?

Sarah Palin Slashed Special Needs Education by 62%

For those of you who seem so enamored with Gov. Sarah Palin, it might be worth noting that she oversees the budget for the Department of Education and Early Development Special Schools in Alaska.
These funds provide supplementary educational services to students with severe disabling conditions and the Alaska Challenge Youth Academy. The resident school where the child would normally be placed does not have the resources to provide an adequate educational program. Without the supplementary services the child’s needs would not be met by the local school district in most cases.
The following programs are included within this component:
Special Education Service Agency (SESA)

The Annual budget for 2007, which preceded Gov. Palin was $8,265,300.

2007

The Annual budget for 2008, enacted by Gov. Palin is $3,156,000.

2008

The Annual budget for 2009, enacted by Gov. Palin is $3,156,000.

2009

This is a cut in special needs services to children in Alaska of 5,109,300 , or 62%.

So, as the Alaska State Budget description states, “Without the supplementary services the child’s needs would not be met by the local school district in most cases.”

Did 62% of all of the special needs children in Alaska stop having needs once Gov. Palin took office?

First, she cut funds to teen mothers. Now, she cut funds to special needs children. See, this is the utter hypocrisy of the Religious Right. They only care about the mother carrying the child to term. Once it’s here, it’s Social Darwinism time.

Oh, and her OWN special needs child?

Well, he’s taken care of through her health plan.

ok, got a private email of some info stating the blogger that jess quoted was correct to an extent, but not really. I'm just confused! This one said go to:

www.gov.state.ak.us
/omb/08_OMB/budget/
Enacted/HB_95_bill.pdf

to see the budget in Alaska. Basically she said that that $5 million dollar cut was not a cut, but that became it's own line item. You can look at the actual budget and it looks legit. And her last line said "and as a matter of fact the budget is increasing to $6.1 million for 2009." Would love thoughts, opinions and any other info. on this. As you all know, the topic is very, very close to my heart.

Right or left, regardless of opinions, that little girl licking her hand to pat her little brother's hair down was adorable!

ok--back to topic. HELP me with this one!
